Steven Xi is a Managing Director of Riverwood Capital, a technology focused global private equity firm based  in Menlo Park, responsible for non-semiconductor investment opportunities in China.  Prior to joining Riverwood, Mr. Xi was a Managing Director at The Hina Group Fund I from December 2004 to June 2007, where he focused on expansion-stage investments in the technology, media and consumer-related space in addition to his investment banking responsibilities at The Hina Group Holdings.  Since 1998, Mr. Xi has either invested or participated in investments in several successful companies, including VanceInfo Technologies (NYSE: VIT), Framedia (sold to Focus Media (Nasdaq: FMCN) for $183 million), RenRen (formerly Oak Pacific Interactive) and Hengan (1044.HK).
Before joining Hina, Mr. Xi was acting Senior Vice President of Corporate Developments at VanceInfo.  Before that, Mr. Xi co-founded and managed an ecommerce start-up with locations in the Silicon Valley and Beijing, China.  Prior to his entrepreneurial experience, Mr. Xi had spent six and half years in investment banking and principal investment, in both New York and Hong Kong.  During that time, Mr. Xi served as Director of Investment Banking and Principal Investment Group at China Everbright Financial Holdings (Hong Kong), the Head of China Investment Banking Division at Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein (Hong Kong), and an associate at GSC Partners/Salomon Smith Barney (Hong Kong).  Mr. Xi started his investment banking career with CSFB in New York in 1992.
Mr. Xi earned an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, an MA in economics from the University of Southern California and a BS in physics from Jilin University in China.  Mr. Xi also spent one year in graduate studies at the Ford Foundation Economic Training Center at the Remin (People’s) University of China.  Mr. Xi is a member of the Chicago Booth School of Business Global Advisory Council, Asia Cabinet.
