Chaoyong Wang
ChinaEquity International Holding Co. Ltd., Founding Partner & CEO
Mr. Wang is the founding partner and Chief Executive Officer of ChinaEquity International Holding Co., Ltd., a China-based independent PE/VC firm which focuses on the TMT, natural resource, renewable energy and health care sectors in Greater China. In addition, he is the Chairman of Origo Sino-China, a London-listed investment fund, Beijing Xin Zhong Da Investment, a Beijing-based RMB fund, Li Shi Zhen Health Corp., and iFensi.com. He also sits on the board of Rising, Infront Sports, The9 and many others.
Mr. Wang graduated from Huazhong University of Science and Technology in 1984 and in 1985 was sent by Tsinghua to study abroad, eventually earning an MBA degree from Rutgers University, becoming the first generation of Chinese students that studied abroad and worked on Wall Street. In 1987, Mr. Wang began his financial career at JP Chase in their investment banking division, then later transferred to Standard & Poors as an associate director. Then from 1993 to 1998, Mr. Wang led Morgan Stanley’s Asia business as Vice President as well as Head of China. In 1998, Mr. Wang accepted a role to lead China Development Bank’s investment banking business. Two years later, he founded ChinaEquity and carried the role of CEO and Chairman to present. ChinaEquity and its respective managed fund Origo Sino-China PLC have a combined strong base of limited partners that include Goldman Sachs, GLG Partners, Swedish family funds and the Beijing Government.
In his more than 20 years of investment experience, Mr. Wang has acquired extensive experience in the areas of securitization, initial public offering, cross-border mergers and acquisitions, privatization and restructuring of SOEs, security appraisal, and private equity investments. During his time at Morgan Stanley, Mr. Wang led public offering projects ranging from the Chinese airline, telecommunications, and natural resource to infrastructure, shipping, banking and other industries. In the investments field, he was in charge of over 30 investments in Baidu, Sohu, Huayi Brothers, Mongolian mining firms and many others as well as being appointed to be the director of various Hong Kong, U.S. and Britain-based public companies. Mr. Wang has received numerous rewards in the finance sector and is also very involved in the community, taking up roles as the vice-chairman of WRSA, board governor of China Venture Capital Association, investment advisor of State Development Bank of China, founder and owner of China Team (the first Chinese competition team of the America’s Cup ) , etc..
