Ron Cao
Lightspeed Venture Partners, Managing Director
Ron Cao is a Managing Director of Lightspeed Venture Partners and started the firm’s China practice in 2006. Ron focuses on Lightspeed’s investment efforts in China across multiple sectors including Internet,wireless,communications,semiconductors,consumer/business services,and clean tech. With ten years of venture capital experience,Ron’s select investments in China include China Vocational Training,GMedia,Kaiyuan, Lucky Pai,MediaV,MSP/Drilex,PCH International, and Teralane Semiconductor.
Previously,Ron was a Managing Director of KLM Capital,a cross-border venture firm with offices in Silicon Valley and China,where he primarily focused on investments in early-stage technology companies. Ron served on the boards or worked closely with the management teams of Opulan Technologies (Acquired by Atheros[ATHR]),MetroWave Communications(acquired by IPG Photonics[IPGP]),and ShareWave(acquired by Cirrus Logic[CRUS]).Previously,Ron worked at Intel as a marketing executive in the Mobile and Handheld Products Group and contributed to the successful launch of the mobile Pentium III processor. He also served as an operations manager focusing on ramping up leading-edge manufacturing processes.
Ron received both his B.S. and M.Eng. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Ron serves as a board member of Maitian Education Foundation and is a venture advisor to the Shanghai Yangpu District KIC Project.
